San Francisco Soft Story Program
The San Francisco Soft Story Program was adopted by the city on April 18th, 2013 to motivate property owners to seismically strengthen their properties in order to better protect highly vulnerable buildings from collapse during the next major earthquake. Your building is considered a soft story building if it meets all of the following requirements:
- If the building was constructed before January 1, 1987.
- If the building has three or more stories or two stories over a basement or underfloor are that extends above grade.
- If the building contains 5 or more dwelling units.
- If the building is of Type V (wood-frame) construction.
